My Background
TAILOR-MADE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES
Within moments of knowing me, one will quickly see that music and teaching are integral parts of who I am. I have been playing guitar since the age of 9. In high school I was awarded top jazz guitarist in the state, from IMEA (Illinois Music Educators Association). After that I received a scholarship to study guitar at Northern Illinois University. I began to teach guitar professionally at the age of 20, and have not stopped for the past 12 years. I have also had the pleasure to play in several bands and ensembles. I have played in Jazz, Rock, Pop, Country, and Funk bands, to name a few. I have played in several well known clubs in Chicago, as well as some of our local music venues, such as The Arcada, Two Brothers Roundhouse, House Pub, Old Towne Pub, and many more.
While honing my skills as both a professional musician and music instructor, I decided to pursue a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Aurora University. After receiving my degree, I taught in several local schools. My last position was in 2015, as a full-time 5th grade teacher in Saint Charles
At this point I find myself blending my talents to be the best music educator I can possibly be. My years of playing music professionally, in several genres, has prepared me to be a well-rounded musician. My vast experience teaching guitar to literally hundreds of students (from ages 6 to 80!) has provided me a diverse skill-set that has made me a respected local music instructor. And lastly, my time spent in the classroom has provided me invaluable lessons on how to properly educate children of all ages, and more importantly, how to tailor a lesson plan to reach the needs of all children. I am beyond excited to be starting my own teaching studio, and am confident you or your child will find my methods of teaching to be encouraging, personable, and professional.
